Continuing Education, Yes For Real

Most of my readers already know back in June I passed my Precision Nutrition Level 1 Coaching Certification. As per the norm, I took about 2 weeks to relish in the victory of self-improvement.  Then I got the tickler email for the good folks over at Precision Nutrition announcing the very first Precision Nutrition Level 2 Master’s course. Without thinking too much about it, I sent the “yes I’m interested email” and left it at that.  They only had slots for 100 people this year so I didn’t put too much into it at that point.

Well, much to my delight, I was accepted as one of the first 100 students.  So mid-July began the most uncomfortable growth spurt I’ve in a while.  It’s been as if I was picked up and dropped head-first right into a college level Science class and psychology class. Man I feel so smart some days, and other’s I feel like I am so far over my head.  But either way, I’m learning more and more each week.

It’s a great adventure when you open yourself up to learn as much as you can about any topic you are passionate about. So far my progress is really good, in fact, I’ve surprised myself.  This is a year-long course so there are many more obstacles to come.  I’m elated to be a Pn1 Coach and I am grateful to be pushing it to the next level.

Seriously though….

Baby Steps and Monster Leaps

A couple of weeks ago I posted an update on passing my Precision Nutrition Level 1 Coach’s certification.  It took a bunch of baby steps to get on with it after procrastinating for a good while.  I learned a lot of lessons along the way.

Just a few of them are:

1) You’re never too old to reach for amazing.

2) Procrastination is still my crutch, even after all these years.

3) You can never learn enough concerning a topic you are passionate about.

Fast forward a couple of weeks later.  I’ve committed to the Level 2 Coaching program with Precision Nutrition.  It’s a year of intense training toward becoming an even more effective coach.  I’m humbled and honored to have this opportunity.

Baby steps and monster leaps to better coaching.  I consider this Level 2 a monster leap for me.

Believe it

Update Precision Nutrition Certification

Pn1_Coach

Nothing feels better than to accomplish a measurable goal.  I started this road trip a year ago.  I allowed myself to get side tracked and distracted.  Should have, could have, and would have, are no more.  It’s done and it’s official.  I am now a Certified Precision Nutrition Level 1 Coach!

I firmly believe in order to be a good Coach, you must absolutely continue your education.  Times change, scientific data changes, people change.  Onward and upward!

Flash Cards

Just typing that subject reminds me that some things, no matter how old school, still work.

I spent a couple of hours getting caught up on making the flash cards for the key terms in the introduction and chapters 1 and 2.

Things are progressing along and each time I sit and study I am reminded that you are truly never too old to learn.  I’m also reminded that to pass, you must study.  I truly don’t believe I could fly through this material and nail the test.  It’s going to take hard work and discipline on my part.  It’s worth the work.

It’s been years since I’ve had writer’s cramp.  Bring it ON!

Progress Report 1 of 18

I started the process of obtaining my Precision Nutrition Certification about a month ago.   I received all of my study material and slowly dove in.

After completing the required tasks of the introduction and chapter one, I settled down to complete the questions in the work book.

At my age, things tend to stand out more than they used to, perhaps because I’m a bit more open-minded about myself.  I’m definitely one who retains more information if I write it down.  And I’m much more eager to learn at this point in my life than ever before.

I realized that I had been sitting at the table for almost two hours answering the introduction and chapter 1 questions when it hit me.  TWO hours will be the time limit cutoff for taking the full exam which covers 18 chapters.

When I voiced my concern to my spousal unit his response was simply “It’s not supposed to be easy”.

He’s right.  The more difficult this process is for me, the more I will learn.

Nutritional Knowledge

For over a decade I’ve spent a lot of time trying to learn how to eat properly.  I’ve gotten lost in the noise of this program or that.  I’ve tried them all with the exception of those you must get from your doctor.  None of them have really explained the how and why of food and how it impacts my body.

I am a trainer.  I hunger to know more so that I can help my clients on a deeper level.  More than  making a recommendation of a diet they can follow.  I want to teach them.  I want to help them.  I want them to learn about why some foods are better than others.

First I must help myself.  I’ve registered for the Precision Nutrition Certification course.  It could take me months, but I’m willing to invest the time.

As with everything, it starts with me.

I will begin practicing what I preach, documenting my journey along the way.

To my friends who have gone ahead of me, thanks for dragging me along.  I ♥ you.
